Instagram, TikTok and Pinterest Just Updated Everything. Here's What Actually Matters

Three platforms, nine updates, two weeks. If you run a business account or post content for a living, some of this changes how far your stuff actually travels. So here's the breakdown, no fluff, just what you need to know and what to do about it.

Instagram: First Draft Is Basically an Editor You Didn't Pay For

Instagram's rolling out a feature called First Draft. You pick your clips, it puts together a rough cut of your Reel automatically, trimming pauses and picking the best bits. Instagram says it can spit out a first version in under 10 seconds. It's starting on iPhone.

What this means for you: less time stuck in editing apps, more time actually posting. If you've been putting off Reels because editing feels like a chore, this removes a chunk of the excuse.

Instagram Is Cracking Down on Undisclosed AI Profiles

The old "AI creator" label is now called an "AI-generated profile." More importantly, Instagram says it may reduce recommendation reach for accounts portraying an AI person who hasn't disclosed it.

Translation: if you're running an AI persona account and not being upfront about it, your reach is on the line. Worth sorting your disclosures out now rather than finding out the hard way.

Series for Reels: Episodic Content, Built In

Instagram's testing a way to group related Reels into an ordered Series, so your content plays out like episodes rather than a scattered feed of one-offs. If you're already doing "part 1, part 2" style content, this gives you a proper home for it.

Replace Audio: Fix Old Posts Without Deleting Them

You can now replace the music on a feed post or carousel without taking it down and reposting from scratch. Useful when a track's rights disappear, or you just want to refresh something that's still getting traffic.

Got old evergreen posts still pulling in views? This is your chance to keep them alive instead of losing them to a copyright strike.

Instagram Is Testing Bonuses for Photos and Carousels, Not Just Video

Instagram is trialling performance-based creator bonuses for single photos and carousel posts, not only video. It's limited and invite-only right now, so don't expect it everywhere yet, but it signals stills are getting taken more seriously.

TikTok's Comment Section Just Got a Glow Up

TikTok rolled out four new comment formats globally, starting 3 September:

  • Voice comments, up to 60 seconds, for users 18 and over

  • Comment polls, up to five options

  • Photo carousel comments, up to nine images in a single comment

  • Live Photo comments, using Apple's Live Photos for a moving preview

The comment section isn't just a reply box anymore, it's basically a content format of its own. If you're only replying with text, you're leaving engagement on the table.

TikTok Shop: LIVE Auctions Are Having a Moment

TikTok's LIVE Shopping grew 55% in the UK, and LIVE Auctions are a big part of that, especially in collectible categories like sneakers and sports memorabilia. If you sell anything people collect, this is a format worth testing.

Pinterest Wants You Turning Old Pins Into Collages

It's not a brand new feature, but Pinterest's August Hobbies report is pushing Collages hard, encouraging people to remix saved Pins into more editorial, zine-style visual posts. If you've got a backlog of old Pins doing nothing, this is a quick way to get more mileage out of them.

What to Actually Do With This

You don't need to jump on all nine updates this week. Pick the one or two that fit your content and your audience, and test them properly before moving on to the next. That's usually how you get ahead of a platform change, not by doing everything at once, but by doing the right thing early.
